Alderwood of Davidson County, formerly Hospice of Davidson County, announces achievement of a 5-star rating on the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®)Hospice Survey, a survey distributed nationwide to caregivers of patients.

“Achieving a 5-star CAHPS® rating is a profound honor because it comes directly from the hearts of the families who trust us during their most vulnerable moments,” said Jennifer Everhart, Chief Clinical Officer and Compliance Officer. “This remarkable national recognition belongs entirely to our amazing medical care employees. Day in and day out, our nurses, physicians, aides, and clinical teams provide unmatched, compassionate care that allows our neighbors to stay right here in Davidson County for world-class support. Their tireless devotion, expertise, and heart are the true drivers behind this honor, and we could not be prouder of the extraordinary work they do every day.”
The 5-star CAHPS® recognition follows an impactful year of community service for Alderwood. In 2025, the organization provided comprehensive care to 930 patients across all settings, delivering over 3,500 medical social work visits in home care, long-term care facilities, and the Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House. Additionally, Alderwood chaplains and counselors provided more than 1,000 spiritual and emotional support visits, while signature offerings like the free Creative Counseling series reached over 100 participants. An additional 260 individuals received dedicated support through specialized in-person grief counseling.
A cornerstone of the organization’s holistic care model, the Hinkle Hospice House opened 41 years ago and remains the only hospice inpatient unit in Davidson County, as well as one of just 50 facilities of its kind statewide.
Alderwood is one of only 22 hospice providers in North Carolina—and among just 430 nationwide—to earn a 5-star rating. The CAHPS® Hospice Survey is required for hospices seeking their full Medicare Annual Payment Update (APU) and evaluates 38 key areas of care. These include provider communication, timely assistance, patient respect, emotional and spiritual support, symptom management, caregiver training, overall hospice rating, and willingness to recommend. Public survey results are accessible via Care Compare at www.medicare.gov.
