LEXINGTON, N.C. (July 11, 2022) – Despite challenges from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, local non-profit Hospice of Davidson County (HODC) made major strides in its mission of ensuring access to hospice care for all in 2021. One of the most notable achievements being in the almost 40 years HODC has been providing care to Davidson County, the Agency has never turned a patient away due to an inability to pay for services.
“In our collective commitment to affirm the meaningful lives of those we serve, Agency staff quickly adopted a positive and optimistic attitude in 2021,” said HODC Chief Executive Office Laura Owen.
Some key impact statistics from 2021 include: 1,000 referrals and 853 patients served 151 patients cared for at HODC’s Hinkle Hospice House inpatient unit, an 18 percent increase from 2021 2,633 social work visits, including in-person, video, and audio visits for patients and their families 1,280 hours contributed by hospice care volunteers
Achieved nationally recognized Level-4 “We Honor Veterans” status through the NHPCO and nationally recognized as a “Hospice Honors” provider for the seventh consecutive year. In order to keep patient care safe and accessible, the Agency adopted a universal vaccination protocol for its staff and leaned heavily on technology where possible to limit exposure, including electronic archives, remote meetings, and the launch of its first podcast program, Community Connections.
With nearly 60 percent of HODC staff residing in Davidson County, the agency has a vested interest in supporting its community with the best possible care. The HODC leadership team has a combined 97 years in healthcare experience and more than 45 years of direct experience within the Agency.
